Who Wants a Fresh Salad? Me! Don’t You?
I love salads, wedge, Cesar, chicken, everything but the kitchen sink salads. All kinds of salads are made in my house.
Even though I make wonderful salads, I do, actually or so I have been told. I really love my sister Julie’s salads. Partly because I don’t have to make them. But, mainly because they are always so fresh and delicious.
Homemade is Always Healthier
Some restaurant salads are good too, but they are packed with extra calories. Also, everyone is putting kale in every salad made in restaurants these days. I know, I know, kale is good for you.
Unless you are my husband, Todd, a former salad lover while dining out. You see, he is actually allergic to kale. Initially, I thought he didn’t like kale because he was being an “anti-healthy” food critic.
Yep Folks, He is Allergic to Kale
I know this “for real”, because after he had a reaction the first time, I served him another salad with kale, without telling him. Yikes! In my defense, the man never ate vegetables until he married me, and believe me, it took years.
Thank goodness it’s a slight allergic reaction and not a severe allergy. (Or I definitely wouldn’t have tried such a stunt.) Thus, fortunately, he is still alive, and still loves me!
Getting Back on Track
So, because of his allergy, his once plentiful variety of salads while dining out has diminished greatly. With the exception of Cesar and Wedge Salads.
Many times, my hubby will ask for me to “make something easy” to go along with our meal. And then he will say, “How about a salad?”. Ha, ha! My typical salads are much more complicated than these two salads. As I say, if they were “easy”, everyone would be making them!
Luckily, the Cesar and Wedge salads are both favorites of mine. One reason is that they are so fresh and yummy. Along with the second reason, because they are so easy to make and with so few ingredients!
Lettuce Get this Party Started!
Today, I am going to show you how simple it is to make a delicious wedge salad. There are just a few ingredients and it takes just a few minutes to make. It’s that easy!
First, get together all of the ingredients you will need. For this salad, I use iceberg lettuce, bacon bits, green onions, and cherry tomatoes.
It’s all About the Dressing
The salad dressing is over the top, and is very similar to Perry’s Steakhouse wedge salad dressing. For the dressing, you need Kraft Tuscan House Italian dressing and Kraft Classic Ranch Dressing. Also, a squeeze bottle is helpful, but not mandatory.
That’s how I roll folks, I find something I like at a restaurant and attempt to recreate it at home. And, sometimes, I am able to actually improve it. This saves loads of money when I can “dine-out” at home.
Clean the Lettuce
Take the iceberg lettuce and cut it in half. You want to cut so the knife runs along the stem of the lettuce. Then, rinse the halves under water to clean the salad leaves.
After they have dried out a bit, cut the halves in half; which creates four quarters for your wedges. Sometimes, I cut the quarters in half too. It all depends on how big you want your wedge salad to be.
Slice the cherry tomatoes in half and place them in a bowl. Then, chop the green onions and put them in another bowl. Finally, chop some bacon and fry it so that it is good and crispy.
Or, if you prefer, buy the “Hormel Real Bacon Bits” at the store. These will keep in the fridge for a bit – and you won’t have to clean a greasy skillet! A win, win!
Let the Plating Begin
Have a few bowls or plates ready to serve your wedge salads in. Then start creating your new favorite, easy, and delicious wedge salad.
Place the wedges into a bowl or onto a plate. Sprinkle them with some of each, bacon bits, green onions and halved tomatoes. Next, make the dressing.
This dressing is super easy, I mean super easy! Basically, I fill my dressing container 3/4 full with the ranch dressing, and top it off with the Italian dressing. I use a squeeze bottle, so I cover the tip and shake it really well to combine the dressings.
Make it Look Pretty
Drizzle the dressing on the wedge and add a few more of the toppings to make it pretty. I tend to add fresh ground pepper, as it really makes the flavor pop.

Wedge Salad
Ingredients
- 1 head Iceberg Lettuce quartered
- 1/4 cup Bacon Bits approx 4 slices
- 1 bunch Green Onions chopped
- 1 cup Cherry Tomatoes sliced in half
Dressing
- Kraft Classic Ranch Dressing
- Kraft Tuscan House Italian Dressing
Instructions
- If using real bacon, chop and fry until crispy. If not, go to the next step.
- Take lettuce and slice it along the stem to cut the head in half. Then, rinse to clean the lettuce. Allow lettuce to dry slightly and cut each half in half. This creates four wedges.
- Prepare bowls or plates for serving. Place a wedge on each serving plate.
- Sprinkle bacon bits, green onions and tomatoes on top of each wedge.
Make Dressing
- Take a squeeze bottle and fill 3/4 with ranch dressing, and the remaining 1/4 with the Italian dressing. Cover and shake well to combine.
Dress Salad
- Drizzle salad dressing over wedge salad. Then, sprinkle a few more of the bacon, green onion and tomatoes on top. Finish with freshly ground pepper.
