Cafe DuMonde is a historic landmark in the French Quarter of New Orleans.
Historical Landmark
Cafe DuMonde opened its original location in the French Quarter back in 1862. It is still open today, serving their famous coffee and beignets to several hungy tourists and locals alike every day.
Open 24 hours a day, all year, with the exception of Christmas Day, when it is closed for a few hours.
It’s Fun to Explore a New City
Recently, Todd and I traveled to New Orleans since we had never been. Anyone who knows us, knows that when we travel, we like to experience the locals favorite and/or famous restaurants.
This was no different. We weren’t quite sure what to expect, except that we knew the beignets were similar to a powdered donut.
Late Afternoon Snack
When we arrived at the cafe, it was about 3:30 in the afternoon. The place was crazy busy! There is a line for “to go” orders, and several tables available for seating. Since most folks are only there for a snack, the wait for an open table is pretty short. In fact, we didn’t have to wait at all.
Once seated, our server appeared, took our order and reappeared within minutes with our food. I like to refer to him as “Flash”.
Be Prepared with Cash
This is a “cash only” business, so be prepared for that. All in all, we ordered a trio of beignets and a coffee latte with chicory. I must say, I found everything wonderfully prepared, but the chicory in the coffee is an “aquired taste”.
Thus, I only had a few sips of the coffee. The beignets were light and fluffy, with an abundance of powdered sugar. If you are in the French Quarter, you have to at least experience this famous landmark and their goods.
Mixes are Available to Purchase
Their mixes are also sold at the cafe, as well as many other shops in the area.
Enjoy,
