Kitchen cleaning tips is one of my favorite things to find on Pinterest, while visiting with my friends, or just experimenting. I have a few tips to share for cleaning the often and easily overlooked messy spaces in the kitchen.

Really Clean that Sink!

This tip for cleaning your kitchen sink is one I always use simply because it works so well. First, rinse your sink really well and pour in Cascade Liquid Dishwasher Detergent – I usually try to get one with lemon. However, any store brand of detergent will work – as long as it is liquid.

Next, take a scrubbing brush and really brush all of that liquid in. Especially the grooves of the drains, and down into the lettering in “insinkerator”. These areas get really yucky! Sometimes I will also add some Bar Keeper’s Friend or Comet too. But, it’s okay if you don’t – it just helps to make for less scrubbing.

I Let this set for about 5-10 minutes. Rinse the sink, scrubbing again with the scrubbing brush. I have found that after a good cleaning, drying the sink also helps to make it shine. Don’t stop cleaning yet, you’ve got a little more work to do.

Always clean the rubber stopper in your disposal each time you clean the sink. I am a little embarrassed to admit this, but until recently, I didn’t realize the rubber piece comes right out. Yep, all these years I used a long brush to clean the bottom of that thing.  Boy did I feel silly when I found out it just comes out! Believe me, you will be shocked when you see how much gunk is on the bottom of that thing! I also put my drain stopper in the dishwasher every so often to get the grunge out.

Fresh Smelling Sponges

Do you want another tip? I have two sponges that I alternate using in my sink. The main reason is because I like to make sure that I always have a clean sponge to use. And I mean, clean! The one I am not using goes in the top rack of the dishwasher.

This helps to clean the sponge and get rid of any mildew smell that might have moved in. When it comes out nice and clean, I load the other one in for its turn to get clean. It really makes a difference keeping your sponge clean and also helps to extend the life of the sponge. And since the sponges I like are kind of expensive, any chance I have to save some money is always a good thing.

Get Rid of Kitchen Stove Top Grime

I have found that simply using Clorox Wipes is the best way to clean the stovetop. No matter what else I try, it just doesn’t work as well. The lemon wipes work the best, as they are strong enough to get the grime off as well as any dried on crud.

Sometimes, I will spray the stovetop with Charlie’s Soap and let it sit for a minute. But, that’s only when it is really coated where a pot has boiled over. Cutting the grease, yeah, the wipes work great on grease too! I also use these on the baseboards, and the tight corner areas my mop can’t really get into.

Dirty Tile Grout on the Kitchen Floor

Grungy grout lines this is solved easily with the use of one of my favorite cleaning products, Charlie’s Soap. I use the indoor/outdoor cleaner for a ton of different cleaning projects. This miracle soap is non-toxic and biodegradable. No gloves needed! It works great on many tough jobs, but cleaning the tile grout is where this cleaner really shines.

I simply spray the Charlie’s Soap onto the grout lines. Since my tile is 6X6, I typically clean about 9-12 tiles at a time, and I use an old bath towel to dry the tile and another one rolled up to cushion my knees. Anyhow, after spraying, simply take a scrubbing brush and run it back and forth along the grout line. No waiting, as it goes to work right away.

You will be amazed at how easily the dirt comes off! A little elbow grease is well worth the beautiful clean floor you will have. A little tip – reseal the grout lines after you clean them and they will stay nice a lot longer!
