JW Marriott Los Cabos Beach Resort & Spa is a beautiful and serene hotel with an excellent staff. We stayed at the resort due to a cancelled flight. Actually, the pilot aborted our flight on takeoff because of mechanical issues. So happy he discovered the problem on the ground and not in the air.
Why We Stayed at the Marriott
We spent the week fishing in the annual Tuna Jackpot Tournament, and stayed near the marina. Needless to say, we had to say in Cabo an extra night. Darn! I rebooked our flight out using the American Airlines App, while waiting in line with all the other passengers, thus beating the crowd and securing a morning flight. Please see the related article here.
So Excited to Stay an Extra Night in Cabo!
Finding a hotel at the last minute isn’t always easy, and the airline offered rooms to the passengers at a nearby Holiday Inn. The thought of standing in yet another line, taking a bus, and eating who knows what, didn’t really appeal to us. Therefore, we needed to find a hotel nearby to stay overnight. My husband participates in the Marriott Rewards Program, thus while I was rebooking our flight, he was able to snag us a room at the JW Marriott Los Cabos Beach Resort & Spa at the last minute at a reasonable rate. It sure does pay to be a Marriott Rewards member! Click here to see more on the Marriott Rewards Program.
Hard to imagine that one of our fondest memories came from what could have been a travel nightmare. We had no idea we were in for such a treat! We grabbed our luggage from customs and headed out of the airport to find a cab.
Nice Surprise in Store
Carlos Rodriguez, the airport security guard greeted us when we walked out of the airport. He helped to arrange a cab, and asked where we were staying. When we told him we were headed to the JW Marriott Los Cabos Beach Resort & Spa, he excitedly told us his brother was a chef there. He gave us his brother’s business card, and said to ask for him when we checked in. This was a nice surprise, as we were hungry and ready to eat dinner. To hear more of that story, see the review of Cafe de los artistes here.
Short Ride to Paradise
JW Marriott Los Cabos Beach Resort & Spa is about 20-25 minutes from the airport and the cab fare was $40, which was very reasonable. The hotel porter greeted us as soon as we arrived, and secured our luggage. He took our bags to our room once we had checked in. The staff was friendly and truly happy to welcome us, which was especially nice since we’d had a long day with our travel delay.
A Room with a View
Walking into our room was like walking into paradise. The room continued the resort’s serene theme, with an inviting sleeping area, and roomy bathroom. The bedding was soft and luxurious and the shower was large with two showerheads.
As beautiful as the room was, my favorite area of the room was actually outside the room; a lovely large balcony! Since it was dark when we arrived at the hotel, we couldn’t really see anything other than the lighted grounds.
The balcony is fairly large and has an iron railing with glass (see the photos), therefore nothing is blocking your view. Also, in addition to two chairs and a reading light, there was a lovely sofa to relax on. The next morning, we awoke to beautifully manicured grounds and a view of the tranquil blue ocean. We enjoyed a cup of coffee while lounging on the balcony taking in the view.
Location is Everything
The location of this hotel is wonderful as it is overlooks the beautiful Sea of Cortez. They have many amenities, including their signature Puerto Los Cabos Golf Club, featuring an 18-hole golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus and Greg Norman, a full service spa, and a fitness center. The historic town of San Jose del Cabo is nearby.
The resort has various dining choices and offers a variety of different cuisines. The dress code ranges from casual to dressy. We noticed a nice shop inside to purchase those special and unique gifts, but did not have time to explore it on this trip.
What a Terrific Way to Spend a Delay!
Just writing this and reviewing the beautiful photo gallery on their website makes me want to go and stay for at least a week to enjoy all that this hotel has to offer. This resort made our unplanned extra day in Cabo delightful, and we were there for less than 24 hours!
How’s that for a hotel making a great impression in so little time? I bet there aren’t many hotels you can say that about! We will definitely go back for more pampering, and stay longer to enjoy all the amenities this beautiful resort has to offer. Enjoy!!
