American Airlines has an app that can be used for IOS or Android phones.  This app allows you to rebook a cancelled or delayed flight without waiting in long lines. Ultimately, you can access available flights ahead of fellow passengers who are not using the app.   Interested in learning more? Read on.

Personal Experience

We spent the week in Cabo for the annual Tuna Jackpot Tournament. Although we had a great week, we did not catch the winning fish.  We headed to the airport to catch our flight home.

The pilot aborted our flight on takeoff.  In the end, the plane was decommissioned and the flight cancelled. There were no other flights out of Cabo to Dallas that day.  This meant we would be staying in Cabo another night.

Everyone Needs to Rebook

All 150-200 passengers were standing in line waiting to rebook their flights.  A college soccer team also heading home had priority as the coaches had to keep them together.  It was hot, we were tired, and people were starting to get grumpy.

At this point, I decided to take out my phone, open the American Airlines app and see what our options were.  Luckily, I was able to rebook a flight out early the next morning and my time of waiting in line was over. In the meantime, some of our friends and several passengers were still in line waiting to rebook. So, I turned to them and told them to open their apps and rebook their flights.

I was shocked to learn that very few of them had the app and those that did were not aware of how to use it.  This was mind-blowing!  Have you downloaded the American Airlines App?  Living in Texas, American Airlines is the main airline we use for travel.  Thus, downloading the app was a no brainer.  However, I had no idea I could use the app for rebooking my flight until this trip! The ability to rebook a flight directly with the app is priceless!

Features of the App

The app features allow you to do several things.  Keep in mind, certain actions may have fees associated with them, so make sure you are aware of any fees before making any changes. The app allows you to view upcoming trips.

You can see where the incoming flight is and if it is on time.  See your seat assignment and change it, if needed*.  Rebook cancelled or delayed flights, no phone calls or waiting in line.  Make same Day Flight Changes*.

Watch free entertainment on board the aircraft. You can even pre-order food from airport restaurants to pick up before boarding.  (I didn’t realize that until writing this post!)  Track your bags and get information specific to your trip.  You can also use the app to find out what time a friend or family member’s flight is landing.   (*Fees may apply)

Sign up for Text Messaging Too

We also signed up for text messaging which is a great feature to stay informed about the status of your flight, and especially which terminal/gate you will be flying out of.  This is especially useful if you live in Dallas – as American flies in and out of different terminals at DFW.
